Police Use of Force -- Too Much Too Soon or Too Little Too
Late? FACTS-Use of Force Reporting(TM) Software Can Help
Agencies Track and Analyze Their Use of Force Data
FELTON, Calif., July 1, 2008 -- CrossWind Technologies today
announces the launch of its newest product, FACTS-Use of
Force Reporting(TM) software.
FACTS(TM) will provide law enforcement agencies a tracking
and feedback tool for the highest risk situation encountered
by officers -- Use of Force. The effective and appropriate
use of force should result in the control of the suspect as
safely -- and quickly -- as possible. This often requires
split-second decision-making on the part of the officer. In
many cases, the longer the escalation process, the more
likely injury to the suspect and/or officer will result. The
ability to track and review these occurrences, allows law
enforcement agencies to establish practices that support
their officers both in court and in training programs.
FACTS(TM) software enables command staff to instantly review
and chart all agency Use of Force incidents from many
profiles: by individual officer, beat, division,
weapon-type, suspect type, and many more. FACTS(TM) also
supports DVR attachments to every report, providing a simple
way of managing and recalling recorded evidence to any
Use-of-Force incident.
FACTS(TM) provides simple data entry screens and electronic
approval routing via email, officers can do their own data
entry, eliminating the need to enter information more than
once. Other benefits include:
-- Supports "Best Practices" for Use of Force reporting and
risk management
-- Provides training feedback for monitoring and improving
officer safety
-- Early identification of potential areas of concern and/or
retraining to enhance officer career development
-- Supports compliance with agency standards, policies and
procedures
-- Collection of officer feedback on the effectiveness of
methods and weapons to allow agencies to collect and compare
performance and outcome statistics for different techniques
and equipment (e.g., firearms vs. TASER(R), etc.)
FACTS(TM) is designed to work in a networked, MS Windows(R)
environment. Pricing is based on the number of users making
it affordable for any size agency. FACTS(TM) includes a free
PostgresSQL database that will support up to 500 networked
users. Minimum desktop requirements are: 450 MHz CPU; 256 MB
RAM; 50 MB Hard Disk Space; CD-ROM Drive or network access;
Windows 2000, XP or Vista (any version).
