Karen Hamilton Rice suffered a massive stroke at the age of 46. Forced into early retirement, Rice remained unwilling to give in to her limitations and became a certified lay speaker for the United Methodist Church. She is now the Lay Leader at her local church and coaches students for the high school speech team. Rice wants to be an example for those who must restart their lives and take new career paths. She considers her 39-year marriage her greatest success. Rice has two grown sons and two granddaughters. "Time Change" is her first book.
